From 1st December 2023, toll for German federal roads dramatically increased by over 86 percent.

From the beginning of 2023 , carriers using German federal roads and highways  pay a special toll .
From December 1 2023, for Euro 6 class trucks, this fee increased by over 86 percent.

The toll amount for using federal roads and highways depends on various factors. For example, the number of vehicle axles or the exhaust gas purity classification.
The toll is a mandatory fee for driving on German federal roads and currently applies to vehicles over 7.5 tons.
From July 1, 2024, it will also be charged for vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons.

Additionally, from January 1, 2024, vehicles powered by natural gas (CNG/LNG) will be subject to fees based on emission classification. The current fee waver is valid until December 31, 2023.

Road tolls, depending on the level of CO2 emissions, are intended to promote low-emission forms of transport, such as the development of freight transport by rail. However, at the moment in Europe, road transport is the basic form of supply, and it is difficult to imagine that it will be significantly reduced in the near future.

Carriers are already warning that they cannot bear the rising costs and will pass on at least part of them to end recipients.
This means that a drastic increase in toll rates is expected to contribute to next impulse of inflation.
