Landslides and flooding on major Norwegian highways

Due to landslides at the beginning of the week some sections of the E6 and E18 highways have been closed, and around 30 county roads inland were also shut down due to flooding.

If you plan to drive on the E6 between Oslo and Trondheim, or on the E18 between Kristiansand and Oslo, you can expect delays, because traffic had been halted and later slowly reopened due to landslides and flooding.

Earlier this week, central and southeastern Norway experienced heavy rainfall, leading to warnings of hazardous conditions.

Water and thick mud have flowed into the area twice in two days, leading to the evacuation of around 30 people from the affected zone.

On Tuesday morning, a landslide measuring 30 to 40 meters wide hit the E6 at Krekke in Ringebu municipality, forcing the closure of both lanes and causing long traffic jams.

A detour has been set up via National Road 3 through Østerdalen, which when needed can be still used.

A rapid drop in water levels after the flooding could also trigger additional local landslides.

Also the E18 at Tvedestrand was closed due to a landslide. However, it was partially reopened on Thursday, September 12, after being fully closed.

After a few days of cleaning, the roads were open with only one lane, with some detours in place, and reduced speed limits.

Road users and freight forwarders should therefore expect some delays.

We encourage everyone to drive carefully and remain attentive to workers along the road.
