At the beginning of the week, a major landslide occurred on the E6 route in the town of Rosten in Gudbrandsdalen. A massive boulder broke off from a mountain cliff and fell onto the road, causing a complete closure. Drivers should expect disruptions and use alternative routes.
The rockslide, which took place on Monday evening, was caused by ice cracking on the rock surface. Although the risk of further rock falls is low, specialists have decided to secure a large rock block that remains on the slope. It will be fastened using 15-20 bolts, each measuring between six and nine meters in length.
Due to the steep and difficult terrain in Rosten, all work must be carried out manually, significantly extending the time required for completion. It is estimated that the drilling and installation of safety measures will take several days.
No exact reopening date for the E6 has been provided yet. Once the rock block has been secured, cleanup operations will begin, including blasting the rock that blocks the road and removing fallen debris.
There is a possibility of reopening a single lane while the safety and cleanup work continues, but Statens Vegvesen has not yet specified when this might happen.
