Good to know about importing to Norway and smooth customs clearance

What is good to have ready in advance?

For smoother and faster customs clearance, we encourage customers to have detailed information about their items.

Please pay attention to filling in detailed information about goods, whether using a commercial or proforma invoice. Insufficient invoice information can have consequences for cross-border transport.

The information we need to clear customs includes:

  • Invoice
  •  Identification of vehicle transporting the goods (trucks reg. , ships name or container number)
  • Net and gross weight
  • Shipping information for delivery terms (EXW/FCA/FOB) on the invoice.
  • Planned time and place of crossing the border
  • Information about where the papers/customs clearance should be returned ( e-mail address )
  • Information on billing address
  • Name and quantity of each item
  • declaration or certificate of origin of the goods ( depending of the value)
  • Item number according to the the Customs Tariff

The customs tariff number indicates which import duties must be collected for the individual goods.

All goods that are going to be exported or imported must have an item number according to the Customs Tariff. Finding the correct item number is important for the accurate calculation of import duties.

An item number consists of eight digits, of which the first six digits are international. This means that the first six digits of an item number on a foreign invoice are generally identical to the first six digits of the Norwegian customs tariff.

Example of item number: 61.10.1100 – Sweaters, jumpers, pullovers, cardigans, waistcoats, and similar goods, made of knitted fabric.
