Digitoll 2026 - How to prepare for the new customs requirements

Starting February 1st, 2026, the obligation to notify and report customs information at the border will become fully digital.

VIABALTIC NORGE is already using the Digitoll system for some operations to prepare both our team and our clients for this new way of working.

What is Digitoll?

Digitoll is a system where customs declarations and documents are submitted digitally. This makes border crossing:

  • Faster, through automatic customs processing

  • Smarter, with automated control risk analysis

  • Simpler, with border crossing happening without stopping

One of the main advantages is that goods are released after crossing the border and can be used immediately, but this means all important customs steps must be done before transport begins.

Documents and Information that must be provided to VIABALTIC NORGE before starting transport from abroad

We will need the same information that we already ask for today, but now we must receive it before the transport starts:

  • Name and address of the foreign seller

  • Number of packages

  • Value of goods (a proforma invoice is acceptable)

  • Delivery terms according to Incoterms

  • Type of transaction (e.g., regular sale, temporary import, return shipment)

  • Description of the goods

  • HS customs tariff number

  • Country of origin

  • Gross weight

  • Any customs preferences

  • Additional documents (certificates, permits, etc.)

We usually receive this information without issues. However, for Digitoll, it’s important that we get everything before the goods cross the border.

Important!

If anything changes, you must inform us in time.
We need to make sure all information is correct, even if an update is sent later.

Failing to do so may result in extra customs duties, penalties or delays or even stopping the shipment at the border

If the customs documents don’t match the shipment, we may have to place the goods in temporary customs storage, which is costly and not always available. The storage period is currently limited to 12 days.

Tips for Clients:

  1. Before transport starts, check that you have all the documents and information needed for customs clearance. See the list above.
  2. Make sure VIABALTIC NORGE has contact with a dedicated person in your company, so we can coordinate if anything changes.
  3. Inform your suppliers about the new procedures, so they know they must send documents earlier than before.
